Create and edit products

Set up product names, base prices, GST, descriptions, images, modifiers, visibility, loyalty treatment, and optional costing links.

Overview

  • A Product is the main sellable item in the MiniTill catalogue, such as Salmon Gravlax, Flat White, or a six-pack of bagels.
  • Core product details include name, category, base price, description, optional SKU, GST treatment, and whether the product is currently available.
  • Products can have separate defaults for Show on POS and Show online.
  • Products can be linked to one or more Modifier Groups, excluded from loyalty earning, and given different product and online images.
  • When Costing is enabled, a product can also link to a recipe and target food-cost percentage.

When to use this

  • Create a new Product for a genuinely distinct item that should have its own price, reporting identity, modifiers, or customer-facing presentation.
  • Edit an existing Product when the underlying item itself changes across the business.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Menu → Products and choose Add product.
  2. Enter a clear staff/customer-facing name and base price.
  3. Choose a Category where appropriate.
  4. Set GST treatment correctly.
  5. Add a description and SKU if useful for operations.
  6. Set Show on POS, Show online, Available for sale, and Exclude from loyalty points as required.
  7. Link the appropriate Modifier Groups.
  8. Add Product and Online Product images if the POS and customer-facing presentation should differ.
  9. If applicable, configure online badges/upsell settings or costing recipe data.
  10. Save the product, then review Store-level price and availability where the business has multiple locations.

Common mistakes

  • Do not create duplicate copies of the same product for each store.
  • Do not use a product's base price as a workaround for one store's local price difference.
  • Do not confuse Available for sale with Show on POS or Show online; these controls serve different purposes.
  • Do not attach every Modifier Group to every product; only link options that make sense for that item.

Troubleshooting

  • If the product is missing from POS, check Available for sale, Show on POS, Store settings, Category visibility, and POS Layout.
  • If it is missing online, check Show online, Store online visibility, Category visibility, store online ordering status, and current availability.
  • If a modifier group is missing on the item, confirm it is linked to the Product and enabled for the Store.
  • If a product cannot be deleted or historical data still references it, MiniTill preserves historical order integrity rather than rewriting past sales.
