Menu & Catalogue
Categories and menu ordering
Organise products into clear categories and control the order staff and connected menu surfaces use.
Overview
- Categories provide the main single-level grouping for products in the Business catalogue.
- Categories have an explicit sort order. The Categories page supports dragging rows and saving the order.
- Products, modifier groups, and modifier options also have explicit ordering so MiniTill does not have to rely on alphabetical order.
- Kitchen/KDS product ordering can use catalogue category/product ordering so preparation screens follow a predictable operational sequence.
When to use this
- Use Categories to group items in a way that makes sense operationally, such as Bagels, Breakfast, Drinks, Sides, or Retail.
- Review ordering when staff struggle to find items or when the kitchen presentation feels inconsistent.
Step-by-step
- Open Menu → Categories.
- Create a category with a clear name and optional colour/image.
- Drag categories into the order you want and select Save order.
- Assign Products to the relevant categories.
- Review Product order and Modifier Group/Option order where those editors allow reordering.
- Use POS Layouts separately when you want a custom button arrangement for front-of-house speed.
Common mistakes
- Do not create excessive categories for only one or two closely related items unless it improves staff/customer navigation.
- Do not expect Category sort order to replace a carefully designed POS Layout.
- Do not rely on product names to create order; use the explicit ordering controls.
Troubleshooting
- If the order did not change, make sure you used Save order after dragging.
- If a category has no visible products in a Store, review product/category Store availability and visibility.
- If POS buttons are still in a different sequence, edit the POS Layout because layout cells are an independent arrangement.
