POS & Selling
Sell a gift card from POS
Use the secondary More menu for occasional gift-card sales without confusing them with normal cart checkout.
Overview
- Sell Gift Card is intentionally not a primary checkout button because it is usually used far less often than normal product sales.
- Web and Mobile POS expose gift-card selling from a secondary More/staff action area.
- A gift-card sale is its own recoverable sale/payment workflow. It should not be started while a normal product cart is in progress.
- If a gift-card payment is interrupted, MiniTill can retain recovery state so staff can resume/check the existing sale instead of issuing or charging a second card.
When to use this
- Use Sell Gift Card when the customer is purchasing a new gift card. Do not use it when the customer is paying for a normal order with an existing gift card.
Step-by-step
- Finish, Hold, or Clear the normal product cart first.
- Open More/the secondary POS menu and choose Sell Gift Card.
- Choose the value and supported delivery details/options.
- Complete payment for the gift-card sale.
- Confirm the card was issued/activated and provide the code/print/email delivery as configured.
Common mistakes
- Do not use Sell Gift Card as the tender for an existing card; gift-card redemption happens in payment.
- Do not start a second gift-card sale when a previous one shows recovery/resume state.
- Do not charge the customer again until you know whether an interrupted gift-card payment succeeded.
Troubleshooting
- If Sell Gift Card is disabled, finish or clear the current cart and resolve any existing gift-card recovery state.
- If payment completed but activation is uncertain, use the Check activation/recovery flow rather than creating another sale.
- If the option is missing, confirm gift cards and POS gift-card sales are enabled for the business/store.
