Customers, Loyalty, Discounts & Gift Cards
Understand customers, loyalty, discounts, and gift cards
Understand which features belong to the customer, the business, the store, or a specific sale before configuring rewards.
Overview
- Customers are Business-level records shared across that Business's stores. A regular customer does not need a separate profile for each Store.
- Customer Groups are Business-level rules that can control loyalty earn rate, automatic discount rate, whether points may be redeemed, default assignment, and display order.
- Loyalty policy is Business-level and controls whether loyalty/redemption is enabled, point value, redemption limits, discount interaction, expiry settings, and optional VIP settings.
- Discount definitions are Store-specific. A discount configured at one Store is not automatically a discount at every Store.
- Gift Cards are Business-level stored-value liabilities. POS/online sales and redemption use the same issued card balance across the Business.
When to use this
- Read this first if you are unsure whether a customer benefit should be configured as a Customer Group, Loyalty setting, POS Discount, Gift Card, or Voucher.
Step-by-step
- Create or review Customer Groups first if different customer types should earn/discount differently.
- Configure the Business loyalty policy.
- Configure Store Discounts only for cashier-selected promotions or discretionary discounts.
- Configure Gift Cards separately when customers prepay stored value.
- Test one complete customer sale through POS before rolling the policy out to staff.
Common mistakes
- Do not create duplicate customer profiles per Store.
- Do not use a manual POS Discount to imitate a Customer Group discount that MiniTill already applies.
- Do not treat Loyalty Points and Gift Card balance as the same type of value.
- Do not assume Store Discounts are Business-wide.
Troubleshooting
- If a benefit behaves differently than expected, identify whether it comes from Customer Group, Loyalty, Discount, Gift Card, Voucher, or a Store-specific setting before changing anything.
- If a feature page is unavailable, check plan entitlement and your role.
