POS & Selling

Understand the POS screen

Learn the normal counter-order flow and what the main POS controls do before service gets busy.

Overview

  • MiniTill POS is the staff-facing register for creating and completing counter orders. Web POS and MiniTill POS mobile use the same MiniTill orders, payments, customers, and menu.
  • The product area is driven by the configured POS Layout, while the order area shows the current cart, totals, customer/discount/note controls, Hold, Clear, and Pay.
  • A new normal counter order starts as Takeaway/Pickup with Source set to POS unless staff choose another fulfilment type or source.
  • MiniTill recalculates the final order total, discounts, loyalty redemption, payments, and remaining balance before checkout completes.

When to use this

  • Use this guide when training a new cashier or when the difference between the cart, Hold, Clear, Source, fulfilment, and Pay controls is not yet familiar.

Step-by-step

  1. Confirm you are using the correct Store and POS device/register.
  2. Choose products from the configured POS Layout.
  3. Complete required modifiers and adjust quantity or item notes where needed.
  4. Confirm Takeaway, Dine In, or Delivery as appropriate.
  5. Attach a Customer, Discount, or Order Note before payment when relevant.
  6. Review the displayed subtotal, discount/loyalty effects, and amount due.
  7. Press Pay only when the customer is ready to settle the order, or Hold if you need to leave the order unpaid and start another sale.

Common mistakes

  • Do not use Clear when you intend to come back to the order later; use Hold instead.
  • Do not assume Source and fulfilment mean the same thing. Source describes where the order came from; fulfilment describes how the customer receives it.
  • Do not repeatedly press Pay if the first payment attempt is still processing or has an uncertain result.
  • Do not switch Store or register in the middle of an active sale. Finish, Hold, Clear, or recover the current sale first.

Troubleshooting

  • If products are missing, check Store menu visibility/availability and the POS Layout.
  • If the wrong price appears, check whether Source was changed to a marketplace source and whether marketplace pricing applies.
  • If Pay is unavailable, make sure the cart contains an item and no blocking payment/recovery state is active.
  • If Store/register switching is blocked, MiniTill is protecting an active or recoverable sale. Finish, Hold, Clear, or recover it before switching.
