Build POS layouts for faster ordering

Create store-default or device-specific POS button layouts with tabs, grid sizes, colours, labels, and product cells.

Overview

  • POS Layouts control the button grid staff use during counter ordering. They are separate from catalogue/category order.
  • A layout can act as the Store default fallback or be assigned to a specific active POS device.
  • Layouts contain Tabs, and each Tab has a configurable grid of rows and columns.
  • Cells can contain products and can use custom labels, colours, and larger row/column spans.
  • Layout edits are autosaved. Temporarily unavailable products remain visible in the layout editor so their existing button positions are not lost.

When to use this

  • Use POS Layouts to put the most frequently sold items where staff can reach them with the fewest taps.
  • Use device-specific layouts when counters have genuinely different workflows; otherwise prefer a Store default to reduce maintenance.

Step-by-step

  1. Select the Store and open Menu → POS Layouts.
  2. Create a layout and choose Store default or a specific POS device.
  3. Add or rename Tabs for useful groups such as Bagels, Drinks, Retail, or Specials.
  4. Adjust the grid size if needed.
  5. Select empty cells and assign Products.
  6. Move cells by dragging, and resize important buttons where useful.
  7. Use colour or a short custom label only when it improves staff recognition.
  8. Open POS on the intended device and confirm the resulting layout.

Common mistakes

  • Do not create a separate device layout unless that device truly needs a different button arrangement.
  • Do not resize a grid smaller without checking whether existing cells will fall outside the new dimensions.
  • Do not remove temporarily sold-out items just to clean the editor; their layout position can remain while availability controls selling.
  • Do not rely only on colour; labels should remain understandable.

Troubleshooting

  • If POS uses a different layout, check whether the device has its own assigned layout overriding the Store default.
  • If a product says unavailable in the editor, review Product/Store availability rather than recreating the cell.
  • If a cell disappeared after reducing grid size, the resize may have removed cells that no longer fit.
  • If changes appear delayed, wait for the editor's Saved state and refresh the POS.
