POS & Selling

Customers and loyalty during a sale

Find or create a customer, see loyalty context, redeem points before Pay, and avoid duplicate customer records.

Overview

  • Customer can be selected while the sale is still being built. POS can show the customer's group, loyalty balance, available reward context, and relevant customer information.
  • If no matching customer exists, staff can quick-create a customer rather than leaving the sale to visit Back Office.
  • When loyalty redemption is enabled and the customer is eligible, redemption is applied before pressing Pay so the customer and cashier can see its effect on the amount due.
  • If the selected customer's active Customer Group has a discount rate, MiniTill can apply that group discount when the order is synchronized. This is different from a cashier manually choosing a configured Discount.
  • The Loyalty redeem line is shown as an applied value only after redemption has actually been committed to the order.

When to use this

  • Select the customer before payment when they want to earn/redeem loyalty, receive a group benefit, use Account Sale eligibility, or have the sale attached to their history.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Customer and search the existing customer list first.
  2. Select the correct profile, or use Quick create only when the person is genuinely new.
  3. Review the displayed group/points information and watch the totals for any Customer Group discount that applies.
  4. If they want to redeem points, enter/apply the redemption before opening payment.
  5. Confirm the amount due reflects the applied redemption, then continue to Pay.

Common mistakes

  • Do not create another profile just because the customer is not immediately visible; search by name, phone, or email first.
  • Do not tell the customer points were redeemed just because a value was typed; confirm the redemption is actually applied.
  • Do not remove/change the customer after applying customer-dependent benefits without checking the recalculated order state.
  • Do not manually apply a second discount just to reproduce a Customer Group discount that MiniTill is already applying.

Troubleshooting

  • If redemption is unavailable, check loyalty settings, the customer's group redemption permission, balance/minimum rules, and discount interaction rules.
  • If a customer was forgotten until after payment, use the completed-order customer linking workflow instead of editing the historical sale manually.
  • If Account Sale is missing as a payment method, the selected customer must meet the configured Xero/contact requirements.
