Link a customer after the order is completed
Fix a missed customer attachment on an eligible completed sale and backfill loyalty when appropriate.
Overview
- If staff forgot to select the customer before payment, MiniTill can link a customer to an already completed eligible order.
- The workflow uses a server preview before applying the link so staff can see the effect rather than blindly changing historical data.
- When the completed order is eligible and loyalty earn was missed, linking the customer can create the appropriate missing loyalty earn.
- On Mobile POS the customer picker remains inside the order-detail workflow so staff do not have to leave the order and then find it again.
When to use this
- Use completed-order customer linking when the sale belongs to a known customer but the cashier forgot to attach them before the order was completed.
Step-by-step
- Open the completed order from Past Orders or the relevant Orders detail.
- Choose the customer-link action.
- Search and select the correct existing customer.
- Review the server preview, including any loyalty impact.
- Confirm the link only after verifying the customer and order are correct.
Common mistakes
- Do not attach a customer merely to give points to somebody who did not own the sale.
- Do not create a duplicate customer when the correct profile already exists.
- Do not manually add loyalty points first and then also use the completed-order backfill without checking for double-credit.
Troubleshooting
- If linking is unavailable, the order may not be eligible or your role may not permit the action.
- If the expected loyalty earn is not shown in preview, check loyalty settings, customer group rules, order eligibility, and whether points were already awarded.
- If you selected the wrong customer, stop before confirming and choose the correct profile.
