How loyalty points are earned
Understand eligible order value, Customer Group earn rate, excluded products, redemption interaction, and when points are actually awarded.
Overview
- A customer must be attached to the order and Loyalty must be enabled for the Business.
- The customer's active Customer Group supplies the Earn rate.
- Products marked Exclude from loyalty earn do not contribute to eligible loyalty value.
- Eligible amount is calculated using the configured loyalty basis/tax policy and can exclude redeemed value when Earn points on redeemed amount is disabled.
- Orders with refund history are not eligible for a new loyalty earn.
When to use this
- Use this guide when a customer asks why the points earned are different from the receipt total.
Step-by-step
- Attach the customer before completing the sale where possible.
- Confirm the customer's active group and Earn rate.
- Complete/pay the eligible order.
- Review the customer Point ledger to see the exact earn entry, eligible base, rate, order, and timestamp.
Common mistakes
- Do not calculate points manually from the gross receipt without checking excluded products, discounts, redemption treatment, and the customer's group.
- Do not expect points for a customer-less order unless the customer is later linked through the supported completed-order workflow.
- Do not manually add points before checking whether MiniTill already created an earn ledger entry.
Troubleshooting
- If points were not earned, check customer attachment, loyalty enablement, active group, Earn rate, refund history, and excluded products.
- Use the Point ledger rather than only the current balance when investigating a specific sale.
