Kitchen Display (KDS)

Web KDS or MiniTill KDS mobile?

Choose which client should run a KDS slot while keeping the same kitchen state.

Overview

  • Web KDS runs in a browser and is useful when a kitchen already has a laptop, desktop, or browser-capable screen.
  • MiniTill KDS mobile is the dedicated iOS/Android app and can use the same KDS slot configuration as Web KDS.
  • Each KDS slot is intended for one active Web or Mobile device at a time. If two screens need to operate simultaneously, create two KDS slots.
  • Mobile KDS adds dedicated-device features such as attention sounds, keeping the screen awake, secure device credentials, and reconnecting after a temporary connection problem.
  • Using Web or Mobile does not create duplicate orders; the selected KDS slot controls which kitchen work is shown.

When to use this

  • Use Web KDS for the simplest no-install setup.
  • Use Mobile KDS when the screen is a permanent kitchen device and native sound/wake/recovery behaviour matters.

Step-by-step

  1. Create the KDS slot in Back Office.
  2. For Web KDS, choose Open Web KDS on that slot.
  3. For Mobile KDS, sign in with an authorised manager account and select the Store and KDS slot.
  4. If another device is already using that slot, either move the slot to this device or select/create another slot.
  5. Send a test order before service.

Common mistakes

  • Do not create another KDS slot merely because you changed from Web to Mobile on the same screen. Create another slot only when another screen needs to operate simultaneously or needs different routing/settings.
  • Do not assume native sound is available if the installed app build does not include the native sound module.

Troubleshooting

  • If Mobile KDS says the native sound module is unavailable, update/rebuild the native app rather than changing order settings.
  • If Web and Mobile show different orders, confirm which Store and KDS slot each device is using and check that slot's item routing.
