Kitchen Display (KDS)
KDS sounds and attention cues
Use distinct native alerts for new work, approval-required orders, and restored work without depending on sound as the only signal.
Overview
- Mobile KDS can play distinct attention cues for new work, approval-required orders, and restored work when the installed native build includes the sound module.
- Settings include New work sound and explicit test buttons for New work, Approval, and Restore.
- The test buttons call the native speaker module directly, making it easier to distinguish a build/module problem from order-detection logic.
When to use this
- Enable sound in kitchens where staff may not be looking continuously at the screen.
Step-by-step
- Open Mobile KDS Settings.
- Enable New work sound.
- Test New work, Approval, and Restore sounds.
- Keep visual KDS monitoring as the primary operational record even when sound is enabled.
Common mistakes
- Do not assume sound is broken because no order arrived; use Test sounds first.
- Do not depend on sound alone in a loud kitchen.
Troubleshooting
- If testing says 'Native sound module unavailable in this app build', the installed binary lacks the native module; changing KDS settings will not fix that build.
- If test sounds work but new orders are silent, investigate attention/order-detection state separately.
