Sell and deliver a Gift Card
Prepare the sale, take payment safely, issue only after successful payment, and recover interrupted delivery instead of duplicating cards.
Overview
- POS Gift Card sale creates a dedicated draft order and pending Gift Card sale.
- The Gift Card itself is issued only after the sale is fully paid.
- Delivery can include recipient/purchaser email depending on the selected delivery method.
- A pending Gift Card sale cannot be cancelled if it already has an approved/pending payment or an active payment attempt; the payment state must be resolved first.
- Interrupted Gift Card sales have recovery logic so staff should not create a second charge/card blindly.
When to use this
- Use Sell Gift Card when the customer is buying new stored value, not when paying with an existing card.
Step-by-step
- Open More → Sell Gift Card from an empty/appropriate POS state.
- Choose a valid amount and delivery details.
- Take payment.
- Wait until the Gift Card is issued.
- Confirm code/delivery status before telling the customer the sale is complete.
- If email delivery fails, resend the same issued card rather than selling another.
Common mistakes
- Do not confuse Sell Gift Card with Gift Card redemption.
- Do not cancel a sale with a pending/approved payment before resolving that money.
- Do not issue another card just because delivery email failed.
Troubleshooting
- If payment succeeded but card issuance looks incomplete, use the Gift Card recovery/check flow rather than charging again.
- If email delivery failed, open the issued card and use Resend email when available.
