Configure POS discounts
Create Store-specific Percentage, Fixed Amount, or Variable Amount discounts and control whether they apply to orders, items, or both.
Overview
- Discount Types are Store-specific and require the Discounts feature entitlement.
- Supported types are Percent, Fixed amount, and Variable amount.
- Variable Amount stores no fixed value; the cashier enters the amount at POS when applying it.
- Scope can be Order only, Items only, or Order and items.
- Inactive discounts remain in historical orders but are hidden from new POS sales. Deleting a Discount Type is a soft delete.
When to use this
- Use configured Discounts for cashier-selected promotions or discretionary reductions that should be clearly named and audited.
Step-by-step
- Select the Store and open Settings → Discounts.
- Create a clear Discount name.
- Choose Percent, Fixed amount, or Variable amount.
- Choose the allowed scope.
- Keep it Active while staff should see it in POS.
- Review Store POS Security if discounts should require manager approval.
Common mistakes
- Do not configure the same discount in the wrong Store and expect it elsewhere.
- Do not enter a percent value into Variable Amount; Variable Amount is a currency amount entered by the cashier.
- Do not use a manual Discount as a substitute for a Customer Group's ongoing automatic discount.
Troubleshooting
- If a Discount is missing in POS, confirm it is active and its scope matches Order or Item use.
- If staff need a PIN, check Store POS Security discount-approval settings.
- If loyalty redemption cannot be combined, review Allow redemption with discounts in Loyalty Settings.
