Ingredients, Recipes, Costing & Purchasing
Create and manage Ingredients
Define reusable ingredients once with the correct base unit and usable yield before connecting Store purchasing options.
Overview
- Ingredients are Business-level master records reused by Recipes and Store purchase options.
- Each Ingredient has a name, base measurement unit, default usable yield percentage, status, Recipe usage, and Store-specific purchase options.
- Supported measurement families include weight, volume, Each, and Dozen using MiniTill's compatible-unit conversion rules.
- Duplicate active Ingredient names are blocked with a user-facing validation message rather than creating another indistinguishable Ingredient.
- Deleting an Ingredient archives/soft-deletes the Ingredient instead of deleting historical records.
When to use this
- Create one Ingredient for the real reusable input, such as Cream cheese, Smoked chicken, Flour, or Eggs, even if different Stores buy it from different suppliers.
Step-by-step
- Open Costing → Ingredients and choose Add ingredient.
- Enter a clear Business-wide name.
- Choose the base unit that recipes naturally consume.
- Set the usable yield percentage.
- After creation, connect Store supplier products/purchase options.
- Use the Ingredient detail to see Recipe usage and connected purchasing choices.
Common mistakes
- Do not create one Ingredient per supplier brand when the underlying ingredient is operationally the same.
- Do not choose a base unit based only on the supplier carton; choose the unit Recipes should consume consistently.
- Do not archive an Ingredient without checking which Recipes still rely on it.
Troubleshooting
- If an Ingredient name is rejected as duplicate, open and update the existing Ingredient instead.
- If an archived/missing Ingredient causes a Recipe cost problem, restore/correct the Ingredient relationship rather than creating an unrelated duplicate.
