Create Recipes with correct output
Define one complete batch, its output quantity/unit, labour cost, ingredients, sub-recipes, and preparation instructions.
Overview
- A Recipe represents one complete production batch with an Output quantity and Output unit.
- Recipe components can be Ingredients or other Recipes (sub-recipes).
- Each component has a positive quantity and a unit compatible with the Ingredient base unit or sub-recipe output unit.
- A Recipe can include a non-negative Labour cost, which is added to the batch cost.
- Component order can be rearranged and is stored separately so the Recipe remains readable in preparation order.
- MiniTill blocks duplicate components, direct self-reference, and circular Recipe graphs.
When to use this
- Use Recipes for anything whose cost should be built from reusable components: a bagel sandwich, cream-cheese batch, sauce, smoked chicken preparation, or other prepared component.
Step-by-step
- Create the Recipe name, Output quantity, Output unit, Labour cost, and instructions.
- Add Ingredients and/or sub-recipes used in one complete batch.
- Enter the quantity/unit actually consumed by that batch.
- Arrange components in a useful order.
- Save and review the calculated cost.
- Link the Recipe to a menu Product where the Recipe represents one sellable output unit.
Common mistakes
- Do not set Output quantity to the ingredient input weight; set it to the usable output the Recipe produces.
- Do not add the same Ingredient/Sub-recipe twice to one Recipe; combine the quantity instead.
- Do not create circular Recipes such as Sauce A → Sauce B → Sauce A.
Troubleshooting
- If a Recipe cannot save, check component quantity, unit compatibility, duplicate components, and circular references.
- If batch/unit cost looks wrong, verify Output quantity before editing supplier prices.
