Image duration, video looping, and continuous playback
Understand exactly when images advance, when videos advance, and why order/Thank-you transitions do not intentionally restart the current video.
Overview
- Images use a configured Duration between 3 and 60 seconds before the playlist advances.
- A non-looping video plays through once and then moves to the next playlist item when native playback reports the end.
- When Loop video is enabled, the video repeats and a Maximum play time limits how long that playlist item can occupy the screen before advancing. The current default for a newly enabled loop is 30 seconds.
- Maximum video play time supports 3 to 3600 seconds.
- The promotional media component is kept as a persistent layer while CDS changes between idle and active-order layout. Starting/clearing an order or showing the Thank-you overlay does not intentionally reset the media timeline.
- During an active order the media changes from full-screen cover presentation to a contained area so the same content remains visible without cropping as aggressively.
When to use this
- Use image Duration for static slides; use video Loop/Maximum play time when a short clip should repeat without trapping the playlist forever.
Step-by-step
- For an image, choose how many seconds it should remain visible.
- For a normal video, leave Loop off to play the full file once.
- For a repeating clip, enable Loop and choose Maximum play time.
- Save and test the playlist from idle → active order → Thank-you → idle.
- Confirm the promotional sequence does not repeatedly restart from the first asset whenever an order state changes.
Common mistakes
- Do not interpret image Duration as a way to shorten a non-looping video's normal playback; video has its own end/loop/maximum-play behaviour.
- Do not enable Loop without considering Maximum play time or one video can dominate the playlist.
- Do not expect the Thank-you overlay to pause/reset the underlying promotional timeline.
Troubleshooting
- If every order makes the same video restart, make sure the Customer Display app is up to date.
- If a looping video changes too quickly or too slowly, review Maximum play time rather than image Duration.
