Customer Display (CDS)
Pair a Customer Display with POS
Discover a CDS on local Wi-Fi, connect it to one POS, and let the native POS automatically reconnect to the saved display.
Overview
- MiniTill's supported CDS pairing flow is local: MiniTill POS mobile discovers MiniTill CDS on the store Wi-Fi and opens a persistent local WebSocket connection.
- One POS is designed to pair with at most one Customer Display. A Store can still have several independent POS↔CDS pairs.
- The paired display is saved on the POS device so the app can reconnect automatically after normal interruptions or app restarts.
- Live cart data travels over the local connection rather than being sent through a remote cloud round-trip for every button tap.
When to use this
- Pair once when installing a dedicated CDS next to a POS, then normally leave that pairing saved.
Step-by-step
- Put the POS device and CDS device on the same local Wi-Fi network.
- Open MiniTill CDS and wait until it says it is ready for a POS.
- In MiniTill POS mobile, open Customer Display settings.
- Choose Find customer display and grant local-network permissions when requested.
- Select the intended MiniTill CDS from the discovered list and choose Connect.
- Confirm the connection state shows Connected.
- Leave the pairing saved so MiniTill POS can reconnect automatically in future.
Common mistakes
- Do not pair several customer displays to the same POS; the supported architecture is one POS to one CDS.
- Do not put the devices on isolated guest Wi-Fi networks that block local device-to-device traffic.
- Do not keep pressing Find while the POS is already successfully connected to the intended display.
Troubleshooting
- If discovery is unavailable, the installed POS build may not include the native discovery module.
- If discovery finds nothing, check local-network permission and make sure the CDS app is open on the same Wi-Fi.
- If the saved display moved to another network/address and will not reconnect, use Forget and pair it again.
