CDS connection and display troubleshooting

Separate local POS connection problems from cloud media/settings problems so staff fix the right layer.

Overview

  • CDS has two important connectivity paths: local POS↔CDS traffic for live cart state, and cloud access for Store display settings/promotional content.
  • A CDS can therefore have cached promotional media available while its POS connection is interrupted, or be connected to POS while a cloud settings refresh is temporarily unavailable.
  • The CDS screen shows local service/connection states such as Starting, Waiting for POS, Connected, or reconnecting.
  • MiniTill POS keeps a persistent connection and retries reconnection with backoff after ordinary disconnect/error states.

When to use this

  • Use this guide whenever advertising works but orders do not update, or orders work but a new playlist does not appear.

Step-by-step

  1. If live orders do not update, first check whether CDS says Connected.
  2. Confirm POS and CDS are on the same Wi-Fi and local-network permission is granted.
  3. Reconnect from POS or Forget/re-pair if the saved target is no longer valid.
  4. If live orders work but promotions are old, check the CDS device's internet access and wait for settings/media refresh.
  5. If video alone fails, verify the native CDS build includes the video component.

Common mistakes

  • Do not troubleshoot a stale playlist by repeatedly repairing the local POS connection if live cart updates are already working.
  • Do not troubleshoot a local cart connection by re-uploading media.
  • Do not place either device on Wi-Fi client isolation/guest networking that blocks local connections.

Troubleshooting

  • Waiting for POS means the CDS local server is ready but no POS is connected.
  • POS connection interrupted / reconnecting means the saved local connection dropped and MiniTill is trying to restore it.
  • Video unavailable indicates a native build/component issue rather than an order or playlist-setting problem.
