Business, Stores & Staff

How businesses, stores, and access fit together

Understand MiniTill's business and store hierarchy, selected scope, and which settings belong at each level.

Overview

  • MiniTill is designed for more than one business and more than one store. A Business is the top-level company or trading operation, while a Store is an individual location that takes orders.
  • Business-level data is used for things that should normally be shared across stores, such as the core catalogue, customer database, business staff access, billing, and business integrations.
  • Store-level data is used for things that vary by location, such as store hours, POS and KDS devices, local product availability, store prices, payment terminals, POS security, printers, and operational reporting.
  • The business/store selector in Back Office determines the scope you are currently viewing. Always check the selected business and store before changing store-specific settings.

When to use this

  • Read this first if you operate multiple locations, manage more than one business, or are unsure why a setting appears only when a particular business or store is selected.
  • Use the hierarchy when deciding whether a change should affect every store or only one location.

Step-by-step

  1. Select the business you want to work with.
  2. Select a specific store when changing store-level settings or running store operations.
  3. Use All Stores or aggregated views only for pages that support business-wide reporting or management.
  4. Before editing a menu, price, device, payment setting, or store hour, confirm the page header and current scope match the location you intend to change.

Common mistakes

  • Do not create a separate Business just because you opened another branch of the same operation; normally that should be another Store under the existing Business.
  • Do not assume a store-level change will automatically change every other store.
  • Do not make operational changes while the wrong store is selected.

Troubleshooting

  • If a page or store is missing, check your assigned role and store access.
  • If a business-wide page is unavailable, your current role may be store-scoped rather than business-scoped.
  • If you manage several stores but cannot choose All Stores, confirm that your account has Owner or Business Manager access to that business.
