Business, Stores & Staff

Staff roles and permissions

Understand Owner, Business Manager, Store Manager, and Cashier access before assigning staff.

Overview

  • MiniTill uses four merchant access roles: Owner, Business Manager, Store Manager, and Cashier.
  • Owner is the highest merchant role and controls the business, business managers, billing/owner areas, and destructive owner-only actions.
  • Business Managers can manage business operations and can invite or manage Store Managers and Cashiers, but they cannot create or manage another Business Manager.
  • Store Managers operate within their assigned stores and can manage Cashiers in their permission boundary.
  • Cashiers are front-of-house operational users. They can access normal selling workflows assigned to them but cannot manage staff.

When to use this

  • Review role permissions before inviting a new team member or changing an existing member's responsibilities.
  • Use the lowest role that still gives the person the access needed for their job.

Step-by-step

  1. Decide whether the person needs business-wide management or only one or more stores.
  2. Use Business Manager for people who genuinely need business-level administration.
  3. Use Store Manager for people responsible for operations at assigned stores.
  4. Use Cashier for team members who primarily sell and perform front-of-house work.
  5. After choosing a role, assign the relevant store access and verify the resulting assignment summary on Staff & Access.

Common mistakes

  • Do not give Business Manager access simply because somebody occasionally supervises a shift.
  • Do not share one manager account across several employees; individual accounts preserve access boundaries and audit attribution.
  • Do not expect a Cashier to see management settings that are intentionally restricted.

Troubleshooting

  • If a user cannot see a page, first confirm their role and assigned stores.
  • If a Business Manager cannot edit another Business Manager, that is intentional; only an Owner can manage Business Manager accounts.
  • If a Store Manager cannot manage another manager, Store Managers are intentionally limited to Cashier management.
