Billing, Settings & Developer API
Upgrade, downgrade, cancel, or resume a subscription
Know which plan changes happen immediately and which are scheduled for the end of the current billing period.
Overview
- Starting a paid plan from Free uses Stripe Checkout.
- Upgrading an existing paid subscription to a higher plan is designed to take effect after Stripe confirms the upgrade/payment; the UI describes a prorated charge for the remainder of the current period.
- Downgrades are scheduled for the end of the current billing period so current higher-plan features remain available until that date.
- Cancelling a paid subscription schedules a move to Free at period end rather than immediately destroying the Business.
- A scheduled cancellation can be resumed before it takes effect.
- The Billing page shows the effective scheduled-change/cancellation date when it can be confirmed.
When to use this
- Use plan changes when the Business's expected ongoing feature/usage needs change—not as a temporary way to unlock one action and immediately downgrade.
Step-by-step
- Open Billing & Plan → Plans.
- Choose Upgrade or Downgrade.
- Read the confirmation text describing immediate versus period-end behaviour.
- Complete Stripe checkout/payment where required.
- Return to Billing and confirm Current plan / scheduled change.
- Use Resume if a cancellation was scheduled by mistake.
Common mistakes
- Do not assume a downgrade removes current-plan features immediately; it is normally scheduled.
- Do not assume an upgrade is active merely because the button was pressed; payment/Stripe confirmation may still be pending.
- Do not create a second Stripe checkout while an existing subscription/change is being processed.
Troubleshooting
- If an upgrade says payment is pending, wait for Stripe confirmation before expecting the feature to unlock.
- If a scheduled date cannot be resolved, refresh billing status or contact MiniTill support instead of guessing the end date.
