What happens when subscription payment is overdue
Understand PAST_DUE/UNPAID warnings and why core POS remains available while billing needs attention.
Overview
- Billing can enter states such as ACTIVE, TRIALING, PAST_DUE, UNPAID, INCOMPLETE, or CANCELLED depending on subscription/Stripe state.
- When MiniTill sees PAST_DUE or UNPAID, Billing shows an explicit warning to update the payment method.
- The current product message states that POS core remains available while payment is failed/overdue.
- Plan-dependent entitlements still rely on an active/trialing subscription being valid; a lapsed subscription should not be assumed to retain every paid feature indefinitely.
When to use this
- Use this guide when the Business can still take core POS orders but paid feature access or billing status is uncertain.
Step-by-step
- Open Billing & Plan and read the current Billing status.
- Open Stripe billing/payment management where available.
- Correct the payment method/outstanding payment.
- Return to MiniTill and re-check effective Feature availability.
- Contact support if Stripe shows paid but MiniTill remains in an overdue state.
Common mistakes
- Do not stop core counter service solely because the Billing page warns PAST_DUE if POS core is still operational.
- Do not assume all paid entitlements remain guaranteed while the subscription is invalid/expired.
Troubleshooting
- If payment has been fixed but the status remains stale, refresh and allow Stripe/subscription state to synchronise.
- If the Business is unexpectedly on Free, review scheduled cancellation/downgrade history and current subscription status.
