Uber Eats: set preparation time when accepting

Adjust the ready target before accepting an Uber Eats order so the kitchen promise reflects real workload.

Overview

  • MiniTill's Uber Eats KDS workflow does more than simply accept an order. Staff can set the target ready-for-pickup time as part of acceptance.
  • When Uber provides a suggested ready_for_pickup_time, MiniTill uses that as the initial target.
  • If Uber does not provide a usable ready time, the current KDS uses a temporary 15-minute fallback.
  • The acceptance panel presents the target primarily as 'X min from now', with the absolute clock time shown as secondary context.
  • Staff can adjust the target in 3-minute steps using −3 / +3 before accepting. The UI prevents reducing it below a short minimum future window.
  • The Accept button reflects the selected target, for example 'Accept · 12 min'.

When to use this

  • Adjust the target when the kitchen is busier or quieter than Uber's suggested preparation time.

Step-by-step

  1. Review the incoming Uber order and its items.
  2. Look at Ready for pickup: X min from now.
  3. Use −3 or +3 until the target matches realistic kitchen capacity.
  4. Check the smaller absolute ready time as a sanity check.
  5. Press Accept only when the selected preparation target is achievable.
  6. After acceptance, use the KDS remaining-time display to work toward that target.

Common mistakes

  • Do not accept first and then assume the original suggested time was appropriate.
  • Do not focus only on the clock time; during service, the remaining minutes are the more useful operational cue.
  • Do not repeatedly change the target simply to make the KDS look less urgent; it is a customer/courier fulfilment commitment.

Troubleshooting

  • If the initial time looks unfamiliar, check whether it came from Uber's suggested ready time or MiniTill's 15-minute fallback.
  • If the target changes after acceptance unexpectedly, refresh the order and confirm the latest provider/server ready target rather than relying on an older local display.
