How Recipe cost is calculated
Follow Ingredient and sub-recipe costs into batch cost, output-unit cost, warnings, and incomplete-calculation states.
Overview
- For each Ingredient component, MiniTill calculates the selected purchase option's effective cost per requested Recipe unit after GST/yield/unit conversion.
- Component cost is unit cost × Recipe quantity.
- Sub-recipes contribute their calculated cost per output unit × the quantity used by the parent Recipe.
- Labour cost is added once to the complete batch.
- Total batch cost is the sum of required component and labour costs.
- Unit cost is Total batch cost ÷ Recipe Output quantity.
- If a required cost path is missing or invalid, the Recipe can become incomplete/unavailable instead of pretending the missing component costs zero.
When to use this
- Use the Recipe cost breakdown when investigating why a Product cost changed or why a Recipe is unavailable.
Step-by-step
- Open the Recipe for the selected Store context.
- Review batch output and component breakdown.
- Trace any warning down to the affected Ingredient/sub-recipe.
- Fix missing purchase price, inactive option, incompatible unit, invalid yield, or missing sub-recipe.
- Recalculate/reopen the Recipe/Product cost.
Common mistakes
- Do not divide the batch cost manually and then also enter a reduced component quantity; MiniTill already divides by Output quantity.
- Do not treat a Recipe marked incomplete as a valid zero-cost component.
- Do not forget Labour cost is a batch-level cost.
Troubleshooting
- No active purchase option / Missing price means the Ingredient cannot currently be costed for that Store.
- Incompatible unit means MiniTill cannot safely convert the component's requested unit.
- Circular recipe/reference warnings require fixing the Recipe graph, not supplier data.
