Link a Recipe to a menu Product
Connect one costing Recipe to one menu Product so the Recipe's per-output-unit cost becomes that Product's current cost.
Overview
- Product costing requires an active Recipe link.
- A Product can have one active costing Recipe, and a Recipe can be actively linked to only one Product at a time.
- When linked from the Recipe editor, selecting a Product that currently has another Recipe moves that Product link to the selected Recipe when saved.
- The Product represents one unit of the Recipe's Output for Product-cost calculations, not the Recipe's whole batch.
- A Product-specific target food cost can only be set when the Product has a Recipe.
When to use this
- Link when the Recipe describes the cost of one sellable Product unit after accounting for the Recipe's output yield.
Step-by-step
- Build and validate the Recipe.
- Link it from the Recipe 'Used by' area or the Product Pricing and costing section.
- Set an optional Product target food cost if this item needs a target different from Store/Business defaults.
- Open Product Costs for the selected Store and verify the calculated cost/margin.
Common mistakes
- Do not link one Recipe to several Products expecting independent product costing; the current active relationship is one-to-one.
- Do not set a Product target food cost without a Recipe.
- Do not confuse Modifier pricing/cost with the Product Recipe link; the current Product cost view is driven by the linked Recipe.
Troubleshooting
- If linking says the Recipe is already linked, inspect its current Product relationship.
- If Product cost is missing after linking, fix the Recipe cost path first.
