Orders, Payments & Refunds
Take a cash payment
Record cash accurately, use the received amount for change calculation, and understand what a cash refund records.
Overview
- Cash is an immediate payment method: MiniTill records an approved Cash Payment when the cashier confirms it.
- The POS offers Exact and common tender amounts where appropriate, plus a Cash received field and automatic Change due calculation.
- The received-cash value is for cashier change calculation; the Payment amount recorded against the order is the actual amount due, not the banknote value handed over.
- Cash Payment records feed payment reporting and till-closing calculations.
When to use this
- Use Cash only when the customer is actually paying with physical cash.
Step-by-step
- Confirm the amount due.
- Choose Cash.
- Select Exact/a quick tender or enter Cash received.
- Verify Change due before handing cash back.
- Confirm the Cash payment and make sure the order becomes appropriately settled.
Common mistakes
- Do not enter the customer's banknote value as an extra payment amount; Cash received is only used to calculate change.
- Do not mark external card/online money as Cash just to close the order.
- Do not forget that cash refunds are operationally real cash movements even though MiniTill records them immediately without an external provider.
Troubleshooting
- If Cash cannot be selected, confirm it is enabled for the Store.
- If the till does not reconcile later, inspect Cash payments/refunds and cash movements rather than editing historical sales.
