Account and sign-in security
Understand personal account security, shared-device precautions, and the difference between account sign-in and POS manager approvals.
Overview
- Your MiniTill account identifies you as an individual user. Staff should use their own accounts rather than sharing one Back Office login.
- My account → Profile lets you update the personal name displayed across MiniTill. The account email is shown there but is read-only.
- Password and sign-in security are managed by the configured sign-in provider.
- POS manager PIN approvals are separate from normal account sign-in. A PIN authorises specific POS actions; it is not a replacement for a person's MiniTill account.
When to use this
- Review account security when onboarding staff, changing sign-in credentials, using a shared office computer, or investigating unexpected account access.
Step-by-step
- Use your own MiniTill account for Back Office access.
- Open My account → Profile to keep your displayed name current.
- Use the account Security page to review how sign-in is managed.
- Update credentials through your sign-in provider when needed.
- Sign out when finishing work on shared or public devices.
- Use Staff & Access to disable business access for people who should no longer use MiniTill.
Common mistakes
- Do not share one Owner or Manager login among the whole team.
- Do not treat a POS PIN as an account password.
- Do not leave Owner or Business Manager sessions signed in on computers accessible to unauthorised staff.
Troubleshooting
- If sign-in credentials need to be changed, use the relevant sign-in provider rather than POS Security settings.
- If a user can sign in but cannot access a business/store, review their MiniTill Staff & Access membership and assignments.
- If a former employee still has access, disable or remove their business/store access rather than only changing a shared password.
