Troubleshooting & FAQ
A Recipe or Product cost is unavailable or looks wrong
Trace the cost path from Product to Recipe, component, Ingredient purchase option, unit conversion, yield, and Store supplier price.
Overview
- A Product cost depends on a valid linked Recipe, valid Recipe output, costable components, and Store-specific Ingredient purchase options.
- Missing price, inactive/invalid purchase option, incompatible units, invalid yield, broken sub-recipe, or missing Product↔Recipe link can make costing unavailable.
- MiniTill uses Preferred/priority purchasing choices for Costing; it does not silently choose the cheapest supplier.
- Menu Profitability uses current effective Costing for past sales, so historical-looking margins can change after supplier/recipe updates.
When to use this
- Use this when cost is UNAVAILABLE/WARNING, margin suddenly changed, or a cheaper supplier appears not to affect Product cost.
Step-by-step
- Start from Product Cost and confirm the linked Recipe.
- Check Recipe Output quantity/unit.
- Follow warnings into Ingredient/sub-recipe components.
- For Ingredients, check active Preferred/priority purchase option, price, usable quantity/unit, yield, and Store.
- Fix the first broken component and recalculate.
- Use Savings only as an alternative-supplier suggestion, not evidence the Costing engine chose that option.
Common mistakes
- Do not edit selling price merely to hide a broken cost calculation.
- Do not compare Recipe batch cost directly to one Product sale.
- Do not change Preferred supplier without checking pack/yield/unit suitability.
Troubleshooting
- Incompatible unit requires correcting the measurement relationship rather than forcing a manual cost.
- If one Store differs from another, compare Store-specific supplier option and selling-price override data.
